PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The incidence of acute myeloid leukemia (AML)—the most common and lethal form of leukemia in adults—has been increasing due to an aging population, increased risk from environmental exposures, and treatment-related/secondary AML in survivors of young and childhood cancers. Members of the hematology/oncology care team are challenged to keep apprised of clinical data in AML, and work together to incorporate novel agents into their clinical practice and appropriately manage side effects of the newer therapies. This activity will offer insights into applying guideline-recommended assessment and treatment strategies into practice and how collaboration among clinicians in both community and academic settings can optimize outcomes for patients with AML.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, learners should be better able to:

• SUMMARIZE mechanisms of action and safety/efficacy data of novel approved agents for AML
• CREATE individualized assessment and treatment plans as a team for individuals with AML
• IDENTIFY appropriate adverse event monitoring and supportive care strategies for individuals with AML
• EVALUATE how measurable residual disease (MRD) assessment can be used in AML management
